Purpose:  Apply the truth of the gospel to areas of life where the Bible doesn’t speak or the world doesn’t listen.

Week 5:  I Can’t Change—Homosexuality & Other Sexual Sins

  • Date:  3.16.14 & 3.19.14
  • Purpose:  Offer grace & hope to those with same-sex attraction.
  • Main Purpose:
    • The goal is not heterosexuality; it’s holy sexuality.
    • Single is not a second-rate status.
    • God’s gives grace to handle today’s temptations.
    • Hope:  Jesus will one day heal all sexual brokenness.

Week 4:  NSFL—Pornography & the Sexualization of America

  • Date:  3.9.14 & 3.12.14
  • Purpose:  Warn youth of the dangers of sexual expression outside of marriage.
  • Main Points:
    • Porn culture has become mainstream.
    • Sex is a covenant good, not consumer good.
    • Pornography is an addictive poison.
    • Christians battle porn with a superior pleasure.
    • Hope—The cross proves God loves us & commands what’s best for us.

Week 3:  Dating Gone Wild—Hooking Up, Shacking Up, & Breaking Up

  • Date:  3.2.14 & 3.5.14
  • Purpose:  Redefine the purpose of dating & marriage.
  • Main Points:
    • Dating has a sordid history.
    • Dating is to find a good spouse, not a good time.
    • Marriage is a commitment to give love, not take love.
  • Hope:  Jesus’ love gives us all we need for marriage or singleness.

Week 2:  Look At Me—Instagram, Facebook, & Duck Faces

  • Date:  2.23.14 & 2.26.14
  • Purpose:  Create humble youth.
  • Main Points:
    • Everyone boasts to get a verdict.
    • Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking of yourself less.
    • The verdict is in:  God loves you.
    • Hope: Jesus humbled himself, so you can be exalted.

Every year there seems to be one series that has the potential to get me in hot water—and that series is about to heat up.  Our youth ministry has begun a series that I’ve titled Five Shades of Gray—Biblical Wisdom and Culture’s Blurred Lines.

Week 1:  Say It To My Face—Texting, Facebooking, & Bullying

  • Purpose:  Demand that youth use their words wisely.
  • Main Points:
    • Our words have incredible power.
    • Our words are hard to say face to face.
    • Our words should bring life, not death.
    • Hope:  Jesus has the final word on your life.
